Smart Energy GB and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) have entered into a partnership that will light up the winter sky at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey from Friday.
The garden’s annual ‘Christmas Glow’ event, now in its third year, is a captivating light installation of giant, botanically inspired blooms, which enhance the natural beauty of the garden and provide a magical view after dusk.
As part of the partnership, Smart Energy GB will install a series of interactive lights connected to smart meters within the gardens. These areas will be dressed as living rooms, and will help to show that smart meters are easy to use. As they sit on comfy sofas, visitors will be encouraged to switch on lights to reveal enchanted forests, beautiful wicker animals and giant waterlilies against the backdrop of the garden, and will be able to see how much energy is being used. With a steady footfall of people who may not think of their energy spending, the installations will show how easy smart meters are to use and demonstrate how small changes to energy behaviour can reduce spending in the home.
Sacha Deshmukh, chief executive of Smart Energy GB, said: “We are passionate about making sure that everyone in Britain knows what a smart meter is, how to get one, and how to use it to get their gas and electricity under control. Nearly as passionate as our new partners the RHS are about gardening and conservation. By working with the RHS we will be able to bring to life how smart meters help people, particularly those on fixed incomes such as pensioners, bring their energy bills under control.”
Tom Shelston, director of Members and Marketing at the RHS, said: “We are pleased to partner with Smart Energy GB in the third year of our hugely popular Christmas Glow event. Their installations will add an extra dimension to our giant, botanically inspired blooms, which enhance the natural beauty of the garden and provide a magical view after dusk. We are looking forward to seeing their inspirational designs come to life.”
Christmas Glow runs at RHS Garden Wisley from 1 December-3 January 2018. Full details can be found at www.rhs.org.uk/wisley.
