LI announces priorities for new business year

The Landscape Institute Business Plan 2017-18 is now available for members – LI’s CEO Dan Cook wrote the following letter to its members:

Dear members,

I’m delighted to let you know that the Landscape Institute has published its strategic plan for the 2017-18 business year, and made it available for members to download in the members’ area.

In his foreword, Merrick Denton Thompson FLI, your president, outlines the LI’s commitment to linking the art and science of landscape practice across a wide range of disciplines, to help the profession grow and prosper in the future.

This plan details how the LI will achieve the business priorities agreed by our leading members on Board and Council. It is based on our ongoing engagement with our members, and outlines our plans both for the coming year and, where possible, for future years. With your help, we have identified what should be our key areas of focus for ensuring the continued success of our profession, and this plan focuses not just on activities, but outcomes.

Upcoming campaigns for the LI

A major part of this plan is our three overarching campaigns that unite all of our activity over the coming years.

  • Value of landscape as infrastructure: promoting the contribution of the profession on issues including green infrastructure, health and wellbeing and natural capital
  • LI Futures: ensuring the profession has the right skills for the future, emphasising BIM and digital skills in 2017-18, increasing our focus on CPD and training, and helping members develop ‘soft skills’ and demonstrate the value of their work
  • Inspiring the next generation of landscape professionals through attending more career fairs, producing new digital materials and lesson packs for schools, and developing alternative routes into the profession such as apprenticeships

I hope that you will take the time to read the full document and see more of what we have planned. Engagement is a crucial part of our work, and we are always keen to hear from you – so if you have comments on any aspect of this plan, want to help us or have or thoughts for future areas of focus, do get in touch.

The LI staff team and I look forward to working with you all to implement these plans throughout the coming year and beyond.
