Plant designs at Clerkenwell Design Week

As mentioned before, biophilia was quite the buzz-word during the past few days of the Clerkenwell annual Design Festival. This year, it has been heard a great many more many times – with highly valid reasoning.

Plants at Work member, Plant Designs London, spread the word with a presentation at their client, furniture company Koleksiyon’s event. Speaking to an intimate group of visitors, account manager Sam from Plant Designs explained the concept of biophilia and the importance of plants within this mix.

‘Literally meaning ‘love of life’, biophilia is the theory that as humans we need to be connected to nature. When introduced to design, it prioritises natural elements – wood, stone, plants, light and more -to emulate the effects of being outside amongst nature.’

Koleksiyon’s refurbished site is testament to how biophilia can be achieved, with a grand green wall installed and maintained by Plant Designs. With that as evidence as well as other plants in the building, it helped to confirm the subject of biophilia to those present. Plant Designs were keen to make the point that plants need professional maintenance too, to ensure that they work well. Dead plants just don’t have the same effect or benefits!
